History: Young Selina Kyle's troubled life home life ended when her mother killed herself and her
abusive father drank himself to death. She was torn away from her sister and sent to the repressive
confines of reform school. Never one for being trapped, the teenage Selina utilized her impressive gymnastic
skills and a preternatural savvy for thievery to break out of the school, winding up alone on the mean
streets of Gotham's East End.
Surviving largely on pick-pocketing and petty theft, Selina learned all manner of martial arts and
boxing to protect herself and insure her continued survival. After years of physical training and
honing her craft on the street, Selina broadened the scale of her operations, quickly becoming one of
the most elusive cat burglars in the world. She used her ill-gotten gains to help the East End's most
downtrodden residents.
Observing Batman on one of his early outings, Selina was inspired to don her own masked costume and
took the name already given to her by the press: Catwoman. She became even more daring in her crimes,
bringing her into repeated and heated conflict with the Dark Knight, thought, because of her
non-lethal methods and choice of (often-criminal) targets Batman largely focused his attention on
deadlier criminals.
When her success as Catwoman made her wealthy, she entered Gotham's social elite, dining and dancing
with some of the same people from whom she was stealing. It was during her time as a member of
Gotham high society that Selina briefly dated Bruce Wayne.
Catwoman has, of late, returned to the East End to protect and defend the neighborhood from the
forces that would exploit it, chief among them Black Mask, who killed Selina's brother-in-law,
tortured her long-lost sister to the point of insanity, and now, as Gotham's reigning criminal
kingpin, seeks to add the East End to his empire.
