JOKER CASTING RUMORS

This is from development-hell.com

News and rumors have been flying all around the net regarding the many actors in possible contention for the presumed villain of the next Batman film, The Joker. While no legitimate casting has begun (director Nolan has barely signed on for the sequel), many interesting actors have been bandied about for the role, including Lachey Hulme (Matrix: Revoutions) and Cripsin Glover (Willard). Now add two more to the frey: Paul Bettanny (A Knight’s Tale) and Sean Penn (Mystic River).

A source at the sometimes-reliable Batman On Film checked in with this tidbit on Thursday: “Got a new name to add into the mix for The Joker in the BATMAN BEGINS sequel: Paul Bettany. Bettany joins Lachy Hulme and Crispin Glover in the mix to play The Crown Prince of Crime. The same source who passed along Bettany's name informed us that there is "no truth" behind Mark Hamill being up for the role. He also told us that Mr. Hamill is "a little old" for this new take on The Joker. Mr. Hamill is in his mid-fifties I believe. I'm digging into more sequel rumors, so stay tuned...”

Meanwhile, Ain’t It Cool News has published a report by a source in “Now” Magazine who says the following: “According to the reporter, Christian Bale revealed that Chris Nolan is courting Sean Penn to play the Joker in the next Batman film. However there's still some finessing to do because Sean's apparently unsure
about 'taking' his buddy, Jack Nicholson's, role.”

Actor Vincent Cassel has emerged as front-runner to play the villainous 'Joker' in the upcoming "BATMAN BEGINS" sequel, now being fast-tracked by Warner Bros. Pictures for a 2006 start, according to a studio insider.

"Cassel has the aquiline 'Joker' look as well as the 'genre' film experience," noted the source.

The 6' 2", 39-year old Cassel is married to actress Monica Bellucci.

No word on whether Warners is considering Bellucci to play the Joker's sexy heart-throb 'Harley Quinn', although the actress did co-star alongside her husband in both "Brotherhood Of The Wolf" and "Irreversible".
